AMPATH Reference Laboratory at MTRH Breakfast Symposium

Date: November 2, 2025 / Sunday
Time: 07:30 - 08:30
Hall: Hall 2

Symposium Organizer: AMPATH Kenya at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital/Moi University
Symposium Title: “Scaling Advanced Flow Cytometry for Pediatric Leukemia Diagnosis in LMICs: Experience from AMPATH at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Eldoret Kenya”
Abstract: Advanced diagnostics have significantly improved leukemia and lymphoma outcomes in high-income countries (HICs); however, limited access in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) contributes to poor survival. To address this gap, the AMPATH Reference Laboratory (ARL) at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) established flow cytometry (FC) services for hematologic malignancy diagnosis. High-complexity 10- to 13-color flow cytometry is feasible and sustainable in LMICs. ARL’s model demonstrates the impact of strategic partnerships and capacity building on early leukemia detection, informing broader regional scale-up efforts.
Speakers:

  • Steven Kussick, MD, PhD, Burkitt Lymphoma Fund for Africa; “Highly Effective Implementation of 10-color Diagnostic Flow Cytometry at the AMPATH Research Laboratory in Eldoret, Kenya”.
